Quick closing valve system
Comprehensive safety system for the instantaneous shut-off of fluid lines
Immediate security for critical lines
The quick closing system from FJ is designed to ensure to ensure the instantaneous shut-off of lines carrying flammable fluids in situations of emergency, such as fires or leaks. This is a critical passive safety system, particularly in maritime and industrial applications where reliability and capacity for response leave no room for error.
FJ manufactures the complete quick closing system, incorporating valves, remote actuation, control cabinets and engineering. This integration under a single manufacturer ensures technical consistency, traceability of all the components and full total control over the performance of the whole system.
The valves are installed directly on fuel, oil or other fluid lines, or at the outlet of tanks, whilst the control system is located in a safe area. From this protected location, it is possible to shut off the affected lines immediately, thereby minimising risks and preventing the emergency from spreading.
Los systems for quick closing mechanisms, such as critical passive safety components in the naval and industrial sectors, must ensure their operation with complete reliability in the event of an emergency.
At FJ, we offer systems that are high-performance, designed for the most demanding environments, manufactured using materials of high quality and with full traceability of their components and production processes.
System architecture
The system consists of two main components: the quick closing valves from our brand Saval and the system for remote operation.
The valves incorporate a trigger which allows both local operation via manual lever as well as remote operation via a hydraulic system, pneumatic or electropneumatic. This versatility allows the system to be adapted to the specific requirements of each project.
The complete system includes:- Engineering and design tailored to the project information
- Valves for quick-closing and units for actuation Saval
- Manufacture of panels and cabinets for drive systems
- Technical documentation and support throughout the life cycle
Valves are installed in lines carrying flammable liquids or at the outlet of tanks, whilst the control panel is located in a safe area, allowing for immediate remote firing.
As a manufacturer, FJ does not simply supply individual components, but rather a comprehensive system designed to operate in a coordinated and reliable manner under demanding conditions.
Ensuring technical consistency, traceability and maximum operational reliability.
Types of actuation systems
Hydraulic Remote Control System
The hydraulic system uses units of displacement that displace a fixed volume of fluid incompressible (hydraulic oil) to actuate a lever. This movement activates simultaneously the triggers of the valves connected, causing their immediate closure.
Power units
FJ offers power units with drive of one, two and up to three levers mounted on a single metal frame. These units of drive, just like the valves, are manufactured by FJ under our line of business Saval.
Features
- Volume of the engine: 56 cm³
- Pressure of the trigger of the power unit: 4.5–5 bar
- Capacity to act in order to:
- 4 SAVAL valves GI: DN15 to DN100
- 2 SAVAL valves GI: DN125 a DN150
- The connection is made using piping Ø8x1 mm
- Recommended oil: ISO VG32
Cabinet for
power units
Hydraulic drive units can be supplied installed inside a metal cabinet. This one can be supplied installed inside a metal cabinet. In this way they are protected from from dirt in the environment or possible external tampering.
These cabinets are supplied ready for their installation at the destination, including the connections to the process required.
As standard, FJ supplies cabinets for up to five units of drive, with options available made-to-measure according to the requirements of the project.
Pneumatic remote control system
The pneumatic drive system is based on the application of pressure of air on the piston of the valves, which causes the trigger to be activated instantaneously cutting off the line.
The main advantage of the system pneumatic is that it allows the closing of an number of valves from a single cabinet.
Features
As standard, FJ offers control cabinets with up to 8 actuators, which enables the operation of up to 8 lines of valves in an independent manner.
The pneumatic actuation system consists of the in its most basic form, consisting of a cabinet for control with all the drive components inside it. As is customary, the control cabinets are supplemented with a battery for air, which adds capacity for firing to the system.
Components
Control Cabinets
Our cabinets have been designed to include the various components required for the remote shut-off of the valves.
- Filter regulator to ensure optimal air of quality of the air and a constant pressure for the drive. As standard, the working pressure for this equipment is 6–8 bar.
- Push-buttons for operating the valves, each push-button will be able to operate remotely as many valves as necessary, depending on the design of the system.
-
Identification of the lines, each line of valves or push-button is identified individually, according to the design information.
This allows only the necessary valves to be closed, keeping operational services not affected by the emergency.
AIR STORAGE TANK
FJ selects the appropriate accumulator for each specific application, taking into account the number of valves to be actuated and the distance from the control panel to the valve.
The battery is designed to power at least one of two emergency drives in the event of a should the supply of compressed air be lost.
In exceptional cases, the battery may be installed inside the control cabinet.
As standard, FJ offers storage tanks with capacities of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 50 litres. For certain special applications, there are storage tanks of larger sizes. It is also possible to supply batteries with prestigious certifications such as LR, DNV, BV.
Electropneumatic Remote Control System
The system for the electropneumatic drive maintains the functionality of the pneumatic drive, but adds electrical components to expand the capabilities of remote control and connectivity.
These systems include solenoid valves in parallel with the manual push-buttons, which enables the shut-off of the valves from other systems or from control panels of control.

Components
Visual indication
To be able to view the position of the valves (open/closed) from the control panel, it is possible include indicator lights connected to the end points of travel. The lights are fitted to the front of the cabinet or, in exceptional cases, on separate panels.
In addition, it is possible to add optional indications for the various alarms in the system (low pressure, failures in power supply, etc.).
Control panels for Remote operation
The use of solenoid valves in the FJ control cabinet allows the quick-closing valves to be operated remotely from control panels located elsewhere in the facility.
The size and number of keypads can be designed for each project individually.
PRIOR Control System
The electroneumatic drive cabinet from FJ may include a PLC and incorporate the PRIOR control system, developed by FJ.
Adding PRIOR to the quick-closing system enables the system to be monitored on control screens or connected to other higher-level systems (such as an IAS or a SCADA system) via a fieldbus, amongst other options.
In this way, the alarms could be viewed, view the status of all the valves and operate them remotely.
Emergency power supply
The electropneumatic system from FJ may include an emergency power supply in addition to the main one that keeps it operational even if the power supply is lost. This allows the control panels, equipment for control and other components in operation.
Emergency backup battery
The system supports the inclusion of battery modules, enabling the control elements to continue operating temporarily in the event of a loss of both the main and auxiliary power supplies.
Line break detectors
If control panels are used, wire break detection systems can be added to detect faults in the connection and ensure they remain operational at all times. In the event of a wiring fault, the system triggers a visual/audible alarm or sends a notification to a higher-level system (IAS/SCADA).
Audible alarms
Audio indications can be incorporated into the FJ control cabinets of FJ. In this way, when an alarm is triggered which prevents the emergency shutdown of the system, such as a drop in pressure in the system, an audible warning alarm will be sounded.
Cabinet refrigeration
If the system is expected to be exposed to high temperatures, a forced cooling system, such as a fan or a Vortex cooler, may be included.
Saval quick closing valves
The system incorporates Saval quick closing valves, manufactured by FJ and designed to offer maximum durability and reliability.
They feature a metal-to-metal seal, which improves their durability and reduces the risk of premature wear. They are designed in accordance with Lloyd’s Register standards and are available in straight-through or angle-seated configurations, in nominal diameters ranging from DN15 to DN150 and nominal pressures of PN10 and PN16.
The valves can optionally be equipped with 24VDC electromechanical limit switches for position indication.
All the materials and production processes are subject to full traceability, ensuring quality control and the availability of technical information throughout the entire life cycle of the system.
